Upcoming Free Continuing Education Seminar - “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Healthcare Setting

BCBSRI, in partnership with The Substance Use & Mental Health Leadership Council of Rhode Island (SUMHLC), is once again offering our in-network providers a free Continuing Education seminar titled: “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Healthcare Setting."  This is a second offering of the same seminar which took place in May of this year. 

 

Program Description:

Attendees will gain insight and understanding into how diversity, equity, and inclusion are relevant and necessary to the improvement of healthcare delivery and overall quality of life for the patients we serve, as well as to our growth and development as healthcare professionals.  Attendees will explore the history of racism and bias within the American healthcare system and the ways in which racial health disparities continue to impact communities of color today.  Attendees will also gain knowledge into practical ways to reduce bias and begin to develop trust with communities of color.

 

Objectives:

Definition of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Definition of Implicit Bias & how it informs our personal & professional lives

Gain awareness of some racial disparities that exist within healthcare settings

A brief history of racism in health care & influences in current practice

Practical ways to reduce bias and begin to develop trust with communities of color

 

This virtual seminar will take place on martes, octubre 10, 2023, from 10:00am – 1:00pm.  If you would like to attend, we ask that you RSVP to our Behavioral Health team via email at Behavioralhealth@bcbsri.org by 26 de septiembre de 2023, as there are only 50 seats available.  Once you have signed up for the event, a confirmation email will be sent to you from SUMHLC with instructions on how to register and/or log into their learning management system.  

This seminar will provide 3 CEU credits in Cultural Competency for the following professions: social workers, licensed mental health counselors, and chemical dependency professionals.

The training is approved by the National Association of Social Workers – Rhode Island Chapter (NASW RI) and the Rhode Island Mental Health Counselor’s Association (RIMHCA).
