Measure description: The percentage of women 16-24 years of age who were identified as sexually active and who had at least one test for chlamydia during the measurement year.
How does a member fall into the denominator? Members are identified as sexually active by both claims/encounter data as well as pharmacy data. Any code for pregnancy, sexual activity, or pregnancy tests will pull the member into this measure. Members who were dispensed prescription contraceptives will also be pulled into the measure.
What closes the gap:
Codes to Identify Chlamydia Tests
Note: This measure, while it includes members aged 16-24, will be included as part of the Commercial Pediatric and Adolescent Measure set for PQIP 2023.
Tips for discussing this test with members:
- Normalize chlamydia testing, making it a routine part of preventative care
- Providers might consider opt-out chlamydia and gonorrhea screening (i.e., the patient is notified that testing will be performed unless the patient declines, regardless of reported sexual activity) for adolescent and young adult females during clinical encounters.
