Currently, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) utilizes eviCore for high-end radiology prior authorizations. Effective 1 de octubre de 2019, in partnership with eviCore, BCBSRI will be expanding eviCore’s authorization management to cardiology services. 

Based on BCBSRI data and nationally available data, there is high variation in use of cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic services. Managing cardiology services will assist us and our members in assuring that services are rendered at the right time and reason for the right patient.

All cardiology codes that will require an authorization effective 1 de octubre de 2019 can be found on our provider portal in our Preauthorization Quick Reference Guide. A new policy will be posted to the provider portal prior to 1 de octubre de 2019. The new policy will be added to the Medical Policy section and will be titled “Cardiology Services – Prior Authorization".

eviCore will hold four educational webinars in September. Participants will learn how to obtain authorizations through the eviCore website, appeals information, and authorization timeframes.

To register for one of the webinars, please follow the instructions below:

1. Go to evicore.webex.com

2. Select the “Webex Training" tab at the top of the page.

3. Click the "Upcoming" Tab. Choose – BCBSRI Cardiology Provider Orientation

4. Click "Register" next to the session you wish to attend.

5. Enter the registration information.

After you have registered, you will receive an e-mail containing the toll-free phone number, meeting number, conference password, and a link to the web portion of the session. Please retain the registration e-mail so you will have the link to the web conference and the call-in number for the session in which you will be participating.
