CAHPS Update: Thank you for your dedication to delivering high quality care to our members

  • The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) is an industry standard survey tool used to evaluate patient satisfaction. Each year between March and June, a random sample of Medicare members will receive the survey to provide feedback on their experiences within the healthcare system, including their:  Perception of healthcare quality
  • Access to doctors and specialists within the last six months
  • Coordination of care with specialists
  • As we readily approach the CAHPS survey season, your partnership is crucial in achieving success. You can help support CAHPS efforts by:  Communicating the importance of providing feedback on the survey to patients if they are selected
  • Ensuring your patients can easily access appointments and start the new year right by seeing a PCP
  • Ensuring patient care is well-coordinated and they have everything they need for upcoming appointments

Improving patient satisfaction has many benefits. It not only helps to increase patient retention but can also help increase compliance with physician recommendations which can improve patient outcomes.

If you would like to learn more about the CAHPS survey and how you can engage your patients for better results, please contact the BCBSRI Quality team at QualityHEDIS@bcbsri.org

Did you know?

The CAHPS survey also includes a measure about the flu shot. You can improve this measure and prepare patients for flu season by:

  • Promoting flu vaccines on your website, patient portal, and over the phone
  • Discussing the importance of flu shots with your patients, and addressing any concerns or misconceptions if a patient declines the vaccine
  • Offering multiple opportunities for patients to get the flu shot, like walk-in appointments and flu clinics
